Students Win Big in SAAM Art Contest

From Fort Benning to the Smithsonian, our students are making their mark through art!
This spring, the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) held its 13th annual DoDEA Student Art Contest, and the theme for 2025 was “Exploring the Senses.” Students were invited to reflect on their daily lives through the lens of the five senses. What does a day in your life look like? Sound like? Smell like? Taste like? Feel like? The result? A stunning collection of artwork that captured the beauty of everyday experiences in deeply personal and creative ways.
Out of 227 submissions from 29 DoDEA schools across the globe—including Belgium, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S.—three of our very own students were recognized in the Grades 3–5 category!
- Gold Medal: Christopher, 5th grade – “Sounds of Nature”
- Silver Medal: Greyson, 4th grade – “The Warmth of the Sun and the Breeze of the Ocean”
- Bronze Medal (tie): Kara, 3rd grade – “Riding a Horse at the Campsite is a Feeling of Freedom”
A huge thank you goes out to our incredible art teacher, Ms. Valentin, who guided and encouraged our students throughout the creative process and helped them submit their work to the contest. Her support and dedication to nurturing young artists played a big role in this success.
We couldn’t be prouder of our students for their creativity, imagination, and courage to share their unique perspectives with the world. Congratulations, Christopher, Greyson, and Kara—you’ve made E.A. White roar with pride!
