Arrival Dismissal Procedures

In an effort to improve the efficiency of our car rider line, we would like to take this opportunity to review some basic guidelines with our families to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Arrival Procedures

  • The Car Rider Line is open 8:00 - 8:25 a.m. for arrivals.
  • All students arriving at school by car must go through the Car Rider Line. Parents are not allowed to park in the parking lot and walk students to the building between 8:00 - 8:30 a.m.
  • Do not drop off your child(ren) at school BEFORE 8:00 a.m.
  • Students eating breakfast should go to the cafeteria between 8:00 - 8:20 a.m. Breakfast service ends at 8:25 a.m.
  • Children arriving after 8:30 a.m. are tardy and must be signed in by a parent or guardian at the front office.
  • Attendance is taken and the instructional day starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. with our first group of students traveling to their Enrichment Classes.

Dismissal Procedures

  • The Car Rider Line opens at 3:15 p.m. for dismissal.
  • Your school-issued Car Rider Tag should be visible in the front windshield of your vehicle. This tag serves as your ID for pick up. Vehicles without a school-issued tag will be instructed to report to the front office to show photo ID.
  • All students must have a Car Rider Tag on their backpacks for the duration of the school year. In the event of a Severe Weather Dismissal, all walkers must be picked up by car in the Car Rider Line.
  • All vehicles waiting in the Car Rider Line outside of the school drive should merge to the shoulder and allow for buses and other transportation to still be able to enter the school in the right lane.
  • Students identified as walkers, sibling-walkers, or parent-walkers need to walk home. Parents are not allowed to park in the parking lot to pick up their walkers between 3:00 - 3:30 p.m.
  • Walker dismissal has three categories:
    • WALKERS: students in grades 2-5 are allowed to walk home unaccompanied and will be released from the lower level to walk up the hill to Patton Village.
    • SIBLING-WALKERS: students in grades 2-5 are allowed to walk younger siblings home and will be released through the playground doors.
    • PARENT-WALKERS: students in grades PK-1 without older siblings may not walk alone and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, they will be released through playground doors.

Car Rider Rules

  • The Car Rider Line is a drop off/pick up only zone. Parents should not exit their vehicles when using the Car Rider Line. If your child needs assistance, a staff member will be there to help.
  • Drive forward all the way to the end of the loading/unloading zone or to the car parked in front of you.
  • Your child should be ready to get out of the car as soon as you stop.
  • Students must enter and exit from the passenger side of the vehicle.
  • Please remain in the line and wait for the cars in front of you to exit. Refrain from pulling around other cars, as this is a safety hazard.

Dismissal Changes

  • Students must have one designated way of getting home on file for the year. If you need to change your student’s dismissal procedure for the day, please contact the front office before 1:00 p.m. Frequent changes in dismissal procedures are not permitted.
  • Student check-outs end at 2:45 p.m. except for extenuating circumstances approved by the principal.
  • A permanent dismissal change must be submitted to the front office in writing.
  • The front office will not accept dismissal changes via voicemail or Facebook messages. You must speak to a person in the front office or send a written note to the teacher. This cannot be an email as teachers are not always able check their email before dismissal.
  • Do not contact students directly by cellphone or smartwatch to make dismissal changes. Only changes made through the front office or in writing to the teacher will be honored.
