Message from Admin

E.A. White Families,

We are thrilled to share that our school year is off to a positive start! Our students have settled in and are engaging in learning and embracing our school procedures with pride. It’s been a joy to see our E.A. White Lions thriving already.

I am writing to share some important news regarding our school leadership team. After 3+ years of dedicated service to Edward A. White Elementary School, our treasured Assistant Principal, Mrs. Melissa Eagley, will be transitioning to a new role as Assistant Principal at Faith Middle School. Her last day with us will be Friday, August 22.

Mrs. Eagley has been an incredible asset to our school community. Her unwavering commitment to our students, parents, and staff has been evident in every aspect of her work, from her strong support of our special education program, to her leadership in our before and after school clubs, and her thoughtful attention to student behavior and positive behavior interventions. In every decision she made, Mrs. Eagley consistently put our E.A. White Lions first, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

While we will miss her dearly, we are excited to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Martha Enyeart, who will begin her role on Monday, August 25. Mrs. Enyeart is a seasoned DoDEA administrator with extensive experience across DoDEA Europe and the Pacific. Her leadership and expertise will be a tremendous asset to our school, and we are thrilled to have her join the E.A. White family. Should you need to reach out to Mrs. Enyeart, she can be contacted via email at martha.enyeart@dodea.edu.

Thank you for your continued support of our school and for joining us in celebrating Mrs. Eagley’s contribution and welcoming Mrs. Enyeart to our community.

In partnership,
Mrs. Jessica Thorne, Principal
Mrs. Melissa Eagley, Assistant Principal

Tip from the Front Office

Call the Front Office

We kindly ask for your support in helping us maintain a safe and smooth dismissal process for all students. One of the ongoing challenges we face is the frequent changes to students’ dismissal plans, often made late in the day. While we understand that emergencies and unexpected situations do arise, frequent changes can create confusion and increase the risk of miscommunication.

To ensure the safety of every child and to help our staff manage dismissal efficiently, we respectfully request the following:

  • Please keep your child’s dismissal plan as consistent as possible.
  • If a change is necessary, notify the school before 1:00 p.m.

By minimizing last-minute changes, you help us ensure that every student gets home safely and that our staff can focus on providing the best care and attention to all children during this important part of the day.

We truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Working together, we can make dismissal a safe and stress-free experience for everyone.

Hear Me Roar One Last Time!

Eagley Farewell

As I prepare to transition to a new role just down the street at Faith Middle School, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the entire E.A. White Elementary community. Serving as your Assistant Principal has been an incredible honor, and this school will always hold a special place in my heart.

From the joyful energy of our students to the unwavering support of our families, and the dedication of our faculty and staff, E.A. White is truly a special place. I’ve been inspired daily by the compassion, teamwork, and commitment to excellence that define this school.

To our students: thank you for your smiles, your curiosity, and your resilience. You’ve made every day meaningful.

To our families: thank you for your trust and partnership. Your involvement has helped shape a nurturing and successful learning environment.

To our faculty and staff: thank you for your collaboration, professionalism, and heart. You’ve made E.A. White a place where children feel safe, valued, and empowered.

Although I’m moving on, I’m not going far—and I’m excited to see some of you again at Faith Middle School! I’ll carry the memories, lessons, and relationships from E.A. White with me, and I’ll always be cheering for this amazing community.

Thank you for the love, the laughter, and the opportunity to be part of something truly special.

With heartfelt appreciation,
Mrs. Eagley

Standard Response Protocols

DoWEA has implemented action-based standard response protocols (i.e., hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate, and shelter) that can be performed during any emergency incident.

Hold Used when there is a need to remain in a classroom or area, even during class transitioning. Can be used for such events as a medical emergency, unruly students in the hallway, or whenever an incident requires all students and staff to remain in their current positions.

  • Students will clear the hallways and remain in a room or area until the “All Clear” is announced.
  • Teachers will close and lock the doors to rooms or areas (if possible).
  • Teachers will account for students and adults.
  • Classroom activities will continue uninterrupted.

Secure (lockout) Directed when there is a threat or hazard outside the school. Whether it is due to violence or criminal activity or a dangerous animal on the playground, a lockout uses the security of the physical facility as a protective measure.

  • No students allowed outside of buildings and/or portable classrooms (no P.E., recess, etc.).
  • All building exterior doors are closed and locked.
  • Where possible, classroom activities will continue uninterrupted. place.

Lockdown Directed when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. From serious altercations to intruders to active shooter situations, lockdown uses classroom security to protect students and staff from the threat.

  • All students stay in place with a teacher or staff member.
  • Students and teachers remain in locked classrooms, locating “safe zones” within each classroom.
  • No one enters or exits the school, except law enforcement or incident response personnel.

Evacuation Implemented when there is a need to move students from one facility to another.

  • Officials conducting or supervising evacuation will vary based on the school and incident taking place.
  • Students will proceed to designated evacuation area. If separated from their class, students should join any evacuation line and identify themselves to the teacher in their group after arriving at the evacuation site.

Shelter Shelter is called when the need for personal protection is necessary. This may include events such as a tornado, earthquake or hazardous material spill.

  • Shelter strategies may include evacuate to a shelter area, seal the room or drop and cover.
  • Schools will identify potential shelter situations and designate specific responses, as appropriate.

The Standard Response Protocols are incorporated into the school’s Emergency Action Plan. For more information on the Standard Response Protocols and how they apply within DoWEA, refer to DoDEA Administrative Instruction 5205.02, Volume 6, “DoWEA Force Protection Program: Standard Response Protocols,” 01 January 2025.
